Program Description
Social work is a great fit for students who are passionate about supporting individuals, families, and communities while addressing social challenges. It explores how social systems, policies, and environments impact people's well-being. Students can expect to study topics such as social justice, human behavior, advocacy, mental health, child welfare, crisis intervention, policy analysis, ethics, and community development.
Program Outcomes
Students who complete an associate degree in Social Work should expect the following outcomes from the program:
- Students will demonstrate knowledge of the history, values, and roles of social work within society and possible career pathways
- Students will be able to describe the diversity of human experience and how biological, social, and psychological factors influence human behavior and development
- Students will be able to demonstrate core social work practice skills such as communication, engagement, problem solving, and emotional regulation
- Students will demonstrate an understanding of ethical standards and professional behavior consistent with the NASW Code of Ethics
- Students will apply social work knowledge, critical thinking, and introductory research concepts to evaluate the social world
