Family Studies (Certificate)

Program Description

This one-year certificate program offers practical and theoretical training for the students desiring to be successful in home and family settings. 

Program Outcomes

Students who complete the Family Studies certificate should expect the following outcomes from the program: 

  • understand the major theories of family and/or human development
  • understand the normal patterns of physical, emotional, social, moral, and cognitive development across the lifespan
  • understand developmentally appropriate practice and strategies for positive guidance and discipline as it relates to parenting and/or education
  • observe, record, and interpret children's behavior in the context of development theories
  • understand aspects of the family including but not limited to consumerism, finance, food and nutrition, and relationships
