Psychology (AS)

Program Description

Psychology is a great choice for students interested in understanding human thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. It explores how individuals develop, interact, and respond to various influences. Students can expect to study topics such as cognitive processes, mental health, personality development, social behavior, neuroscience, research methods, perception, motivation, learning, and psychological disorders.

Students interested in psychology can consider pursuing the Behavioral Health Technician certificate. This offers students a workforce-recognized credential. Students may earn the certificate by choosing the certificate courses as their electives on the path to earning an AS in Psychology.

Program Outcomes

A student who completes an associate degree in Psychology will be able to do the following.

  • Examine individual and group behavior through psychology concepts, methods, perspectives, or theories.
  • Increase reported levels of ability to interact, relate, and empathize with other people.
  • Demonstrate an increased understanding of various career options and educational pathways in or related to Psychology
  • Critically evaluate claims using information literacy skills and scientific reasoning, while also recognizing common biases and fallacies.
  • Articulate how the mind and body connect and apply principles of stress, self-regulation, and well-being in various aspects of their lives.
