Program Description

The Political Science program at Snow College develops and strengthens critical thinking skills and analytical abilities crucial for careers in government, law, advocacy, and public service. Through engaging courses, spirited debates, and hands-on simulations, students gain an enhanced understanding of the real-world implications and strategies of political theory, governance, and policy making. Alongside dedicated faculty mentors, students explore and examine political systems, theories, and practices, and leave empowered to effect change in local, state, national, and global communities.

Program Outcomes

A student who completes an associate degree in Political Science will be able to do the following.

  • demonstrate the ability to explain how government impacts their daily lives.
  • understand the basic debates and issues in American government and world politics.
  • explain and critically assess the formal and informal political institutions and their respective roles in American and global politics.
  • identify and describe the key functions of government.
  • assess the causes and consequences of different forms of political participation and outline the ways in which individuals and groups can affect political outcomes.
